- Phonics skills

Kids can race to the finish as their favorite Cars character while learning important spelling and reading skills with Leapster’s “Disney-Pixar Cars Supercharged” learning game. Players choose to drive Lightning McQueen, Mater, Flo or Ramone and then select among four action-packed scenic races including “Doc’s Desert Speedway,” “High Speed Highway”, “Fuel-Injected Forest” and “Radiator Springs Race Circuit”. As kids maneuver their vehicle over the road and around obstacles, they are challenged to select the correct letter sound or complete words, depending upon the skill level they choose. Beginning spellers can “drive” to the correct letter while more advanced students will spell the plural version of a word, or complete a word by selecting vowels or consonant blends.
Of course, there is plenty of action as well as learning, because players collect coins along the way that they can use to “purchase” upgrades for their vehicle to customize and enhance game play. Perhaps they want to paint Lightning McQueen purple or add “mud masker” tires to get through the mud patches better in “Fuel-Injected Forest.”
By playing and learning, kids earn rewards such as Cars-themed printables that can be accessed by parents on LeapFrog Connect. They can also earn tokens that are redeemable in LeapWorld for downloadable games and clothing, furniture and other enhancements to the virtual world that they can create with parents’ help on the site.
