LeapFrog Editorial Review
Leapster’s learning game based on Disney-Pixar’s WALL-E movie provides a unique learning and play experience that teaches basic skills, as well as science and astronomy. Kids will launch into six fun galactic games and activities, and learn about planets, constellations and even facts about recycling.
When playing “Sorting and Recycling,” players can learn sorting by matching like squares that are put into recycling categories such as plastic, glass and aluminum. At the end of each round, they’ll hear interesting facts such as “plastic can take 500 years to break down in a landfill.” Kids with an interest in the solar system will love “Rocket Ride.” By orbiting space, they will learn the placement of planets from the sun, along with cool facts, such as “Jupiter is the largest planet.”
The WALL-E games also teach basic math and spelling skills. Early learners can practice numbers and ABCs and then advance to spelling and math equations on more advanced levels. For example, the action-packed “Axiom Action” game will have players blasting robots featuring the correct letter and, as the game progresses, they can complete words. “Star Gazing” focuses on numbers and equations, and includes a fun dot-to-dot activity in which kids connect stars to reveal constellations such as Orion or Delphinus. And, for aspiring astronomers, printable dot-to-dots of the constellations are available online as earned rewards on LeapFrog Connect, which parents can download.
